The expertise of the Center of Excellence for Molecular Biology and Genomics of Shrimp (CGEMS) encompasses shrimp innate immunity, focusing on the molecular mechanisms used to combat infections, as well as host-pathogen interactions to clarify the relationship between shrimp and major pathogens. By leveraging genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenomics, the Center utilizes large-scale DNA/RNA sequencing to identify key genes for disease resistance and resilience, which informs the development of molecular markers for disease-resistant traits. Furthermore, their research into biotherapeutics yields novel treatments—such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), bacteriophages, RNA interference (RNAi) —to enhance the health and long-term sustainability of the aquaculture industry.
วัตถุประสงค์
- To establish and integrate molecular-level knowledge of the shrimp immune system and host-pathogenic interactions through the application of molecular biology and omics technologies.
- To advance molecular insights toward the development of high-efficiency precision biotherapeutics and molecular markers for the selective breeding of disease-resistant shrimp strains.
- Cultivating high-caliber graduates and pioneering cutting-edge research to provide the essential foundation for technological advancements in sustainable national shrimp aquaculture.
